Inflation edges up 0.67% in June

Doha: The CPI-based inflation for June 2019 edged up 0.67 percent compared to May 2019. The monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) in June this year reached to 108.39 point (base year is 2013), official data show.

When compared on yearly basis, a decrease of 0.41 percent has been recorded in the general index (CPI) of June 2019 compared to the same month last year, according to data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority.

A month-on-month analysis of CPI for June, shows that there are five main groups, where respective indices in this month have increased, namely: “Food and Beverages” by 3.76 percent, “Clothing and Footwear” by 2.32 percent, “Transport” by 1.12 percent, “Miscellaneous Goods and Services” by 0.66 percent, there was a slightly increase in “Restaurants and Hotels” by 0.05 percent.

A decrease had shown on “Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel” by 0.42 percent, and “Furniture and Household Equipment” by 0.25 percent. “Tobacco”, “Health”, “Communication”, “Recreation and Culture” and “Education” groups had remained flat at the last month’s price level.

A comparison of the CPI, June 2019 with the CPI, June 2018 (annual change), showed a decrease in the general index (CPI), by 0.41 percent. This yoy price decrease is primarily due to the decreasing prices seen in the groups ‘Communication’,,’Recreation and Culture’, ‘Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel’’ and ‘Miscellaneous Goods and Services’.
